Liverpool's man and van service

There is no single rubbish removal cost in Liverpool, because the price depends mainly on how much space your waste takes up in the van, what that waste is, and how easy it is to get to. The quickest way to an accurate figure is to send clear photos and agree a fixed price before anyone turns up. Below we explain what goes into a quote, how to keep the bill down, and the warning signs of a cheap quote that could cost you more later.

What decides rubbish removal cost in Liverpool?

Every quote we give is built from the same handful of factors:

  • Volume in the van. This is the biggest factor. A few bin bags and a broken chair take a fraction of the space a full garage clear-out does, and the price reflects that.
  • Type of waste. General household rubbish, garden waste, furniture and builders’ rubble are handled and disposed of differently. Some items carry their own disposal charge (more on that below).
  • Access. Stairs, a long carry from the back yard to the road, narrow doorways or nowhere to park all add time.
  • Timing. Same-day and overnight collections are priced differently from a booking made a few days ahead.

Weight matters too for heavy materials such as soil, bricks and plasterboard, because a van fills up by weight long before it fills up by space.

Items that carry a separate disposal cost

Some things can’t simply go in with general waste. We can take fridges, freezers, mattresses and tyres, but each carries a separate disposal cost because they need specialist handling at the disposal end. If you have any of these, mention them up front so the price you’re given already includes them.

Upholstered seating is another one to flag. Environment Agency rules say waste sofas, armchairs, upholstered dining chairs, office chairs, footstools, futons, bean bags and cushions are likely to contain persistent organic pollutants (POPs). They have to be kept separate and sent for incineration rather than landfill or recycling. Because they have to be dealt with separately, it’s worth telling us exactly which pieces are going when you ask for a quote.

There are also things we won’t take at all: asbestos, chemicals, paint, gas bottles and clinical waste. These need specialist disposal routes, and a collector who offers to take them in a general load is a red flag in itself.

How to get an accurate rubbish removal quote

Here’s how to get a price you can rely on:

  1. Gather everything in one place if you can. A single pile is easier to judge and quicker to load.
  2. Take photos from a couple of angles. Include something for scale, such as a door or a wheelie bin. Send them to us on WhatsApp.
  3. List anything unusual. Fridges, mattresses, tyres, sofas and heavy rubble all affect the price.
  4. Describe the access. Which floor, how far from the road, whether there’s a lift, and whether parking is permit-only or on a busy road.
  5. Say when you need it gone. Same-day, evening or a set day later in the week.
  6. Get the price agreed before booking. With us, the price is fixed before you book and doesn’t change on the day. There are no callout charges and quotes are free.

Practical ways to keep the cost down

You’re paying mainly for space and time, so anything that saves either tends to help.

  • Break things down. Flat-packed furniture and flattened cardboard take far less room than the same items whole.
  • Use your own bins first. Recycling that fits in your household bins over the next couple of collections doesn’t need to go in a van.
  • Sell or give away what still works. Usable furniture often finds a new home through local selling or free-to-collect groups.
  • Combine jobs. If you’re clearing the loft now and the garden next month, one larger collection can work out better value than two small ones.
  • Clear the route. A clear path from the pile to the van means less time on site.

If you’re weighing up whether a skip would be better value for a big job, our guide to man with a van versus skip hire goes through the trade-offs.

Cheap quote red flags: why the lowest price can cost more

A very low price for a big load usually means corners are being cut somewhere, and the most common corner is disposal. Licensed disposal costs money, so a collector charging well under the going rate may be dumping waste rather than taking it to a proper site.

That matters to you, not just to them. Under the Household Waste Duty of Care Regulations 2005, householders must take reasonable steps to check that whoever takes their waste is authorised. If your rubbish is found fly-tipped and you can’t show you checked, you can be fined. Watch out for:

  • No waste carrier registration number, or a refusal to give one when asked.
  • Unsolicited offers from door-knockers or social media posts with no business details.
  • Cash only, with no receipt or waste transfer note.
  • No description of where the waste will go.
  • A happy willingness to take paint, chemicals or gas bottles in with everything else.

You can check any collector on the Environment Agency public register of waste carriers. In England, registration numbers typically start with CBDU. We’re a licensed waste carrier, recyclable material goes to a licensed waste transfer station, reusable furniture is passed on where possible, and we can provide disposal paperwork on request.

What you get for the price

When comparing quotes, check what’s included rather than just the headline figure. With us, the driver does all the lifting and loading, so you don’t need to carry anything out yourself. We’re open 24 hours, seven days a week including bank holidays, and same-day collection is usually available, including evenings and weekends. We cover every Liverpool postcode plus Huyton, Crosby, Maghull, Prescot, Widnes and St Helens.

In practice, Liverpool’s terraced streets often mean no driveway, narrow doors and tight back yards, and many city-centre streets are permit-only with loading bays that fill fast. Telling us about this when you ask for a quote means it’s already allowed for in the price.

FAQs

Why won’t you give a price over the phone without details?

Because the price depends on how much space the waste takes up in the van, what it is and how easy it is to reach. Without that, any figure is a guess. A few photos sent on WhatsApp are usually enough for us to give you a fixed price.

Will the price go up on the day?

Not with us. The price is agreed before you book and doesn’t change on the day. That’s why it pays to describe everything, including awkward items and access, when you ask for the quote.

Are fridges and mattresses more expensive to remove?

Fridges, freezers, mattresses and tyres can be taken, but each carries a separate disposal cost because they have to be handled differently. Mention them when you ask for a quote so they’re included in the price.

Is it cheaper to pay someone cash with no paperwork?

It may look cheaper, but if an unlicensed collector fly-tips your waste you can be fined under the householder duty of care. Check the carrier is registered and ask for a receipt or waste transfer note.
